Academic Program Plan for Full-Time Students

All plans can be modified to fit the needs of part-time students by adding more semesters.

This sample course sequence does not represent a contract or guarantee of course availability.

  • This plan includes general education satisfying Plan B (CSU GE).
  • This plan assumes student placed into transfer-level math and English.
  • This plan assumes a fall-semester start.
  • This plan satisfies the 16-unit Master Teacher general education requirements for Title 5 child development programs.
  • Completion of this plan satisfies the requirements for the Associate in Arts in Child Development Master Teacher. The associate degree will be awarded upon completion of at least 60 units of approved coursework, including a minimum of 18 units in a college-defined major, and satisfaction of additional MiraCosta College graduation requirements.   • To be eligible for the State of California Child Development Permit—Master Teacher, students must also complete an experience requirement of 350 days of 3 or more hours per day within 4 years.

  • Required for students beginning at MiraCosta or a CSU campus in fall 2021 and beyond. Students with continuous enrollment (attendance in at least one semester per calendar year at a CSU or California Community College or a combination of the two) prior to fall 2021 may choose to complete the CSU GE (Plan B) pattern without Area F and with 9 units from at least two different disciplines completed in Area D.
